Darryl B. Sneag, MD
My main clinical and research focus is diagnostic imaging of neuromuscular conditions to help guide non-operative and operative treatment. As the Director of Peripheral Nerve MRI at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), I personally oversee all MR neurography exams and have developed specific protocols to image peripheral nerves throughout the body. I closely collaborate with MR physicists to develop novel prototype MRI pulse sequences that employ vascular suppression, diffusion and perfusion-based techniques for the morphologic and biochemical assessment of peripheral nerve pathology. I also work with coil engineers to develop extremely flexible, high-channel coils for clinical use that enable ultra-high-resolution imaging of nerves and, in particular, the brachial plexus. I routinely collaborate with surgeons, neurologists, electrodiagnosticians and pain management specialists throughout the Northeast region to help treat and study peripheral neuropathies.
